Dear fellow diabetic, I will put in your hand some useful steps that I learn as a diabetic by either reading or by experience ...I hope these steps will help you to achieving good numbers; if you really follow them strictly:
1. Eat less carbs ...eat no more than 60 gm of carbs daily.
2. Quit any mix insulin like Mixtard forexample and use fast acting insulin like Apidra, Humalog or Novorapid and basal insulin like Lantus or Levemir.
3. Educate yourself on how to count carbs and master it efficiently.
4. Buy a food balance.
5. Know your numbers...know your senstivity factor, insulin to carbs ratio and how to estimate insulin on board.
6. Master your insulin, its dose, its timing, its onset, its peak, its matching with the type of food that you eating.
7. Know your blood sugar target and stick to it as much as you can.
8. As a start follow a strict but moderate target like under 110 fasting, under 140 two hrs after food and A1C under 6.5.
9. Don't follow your Dr. Advises blindly, read and let the results judge these advises.
10. Exercise....45 mins of walking, at least, daily in a good pace...do it like a daily prayer.
11. Read a good book about Diabetes every month or two.
12. Spread the word that you learn.
13. Write down every single reading, dose, related situation and meep that record for further learning and study to know your pattern precisely.
13. Don't lose hope..even if you messed it up, stand up again and jump in the wagon of good control.
14. Take Glucophage, it helps pretty much in improving insulin senstivity.
15. Measure your blood sugar at least 6 to 8 times a day.
16. Use your blood sugar meter to evaluate your work using the 7, 14 and 30 days readings' average to judge your control.
